Cinematic Pills – October 2026

The Odyssey – C. Nolan

An odyssey without gods. A man travels alone, armed with his useless guilt and his useful cunning. He uses the latter to redeem the former. The same goes for every Nolan film.

Optimistic ★★☆☆☆

Backrooms – K. Parsons

Unfurnished premises available for rent in the public unconscious, ideal for letting private obsessions run wild. Clearance prices, free violence. Time-wasters need not apply – or perhaps they do.

Contemporary ★★★★☆

Her Private Hell – N. Winding Refn

Asia, Cloud City. A monster has big hands to tear apart girls more efficiently when they’ve been left alone by irresponsible fathers. NWR draws on H. C. Andersen, Mario Bava, Dario Argento, and above all himself, to tell his daughters a bedtime fairy tale. It does make you a little sleepy.

Medley ★★☆☆☆

The Devils – K. Russell

At long last, the most censored film in history hits cinemas. 1634: a womanising priest rules over the fortified town of Loudun. A hunchbacked nun, confined to her convent, falls in love with him. Nobles, cardinals and inquisitors are jealous. A true story proving that hell is history. And we are the devils.

Blasphemous ★★★★★
